BACKGROUND
Fall 2019 Boosted launched its first integrated light system Boosted Beams. Boosted Beams illuminate the road ahead and have a rear brake that allows traffic to see you. I was appointed lead over the marketing the Boosted Beams, and worked with the team to define the product features and visuals.

Research
From the start I defined the target market, current problem, then worked to gather research to communicate the product on a new layout. I worked with engineers to understand the problem, product and packaging. Marketing team to craft the story for web, video, social, and email. The goal was to update the accessories layout to allow more storytelling, communicate how Beams address the problem and sell some product.

Target Market
Existing or new long/skate owners (V2, Stealth, Plus, Mini X Mini S) looking for a more visible ride.

Problem statement
Being seen is the most important thing while riding at dusk or night. With Boosted Beams you become more visible and your board communicates braking and accelerating better.

Visual Research
Boosted Beams where our first dive into night photography and with trying to capture light from the product so we knew it would take a lot of exploration.
Step one was to define the types of imagery we would like to produce then start to search for great examples in each category.

Hype/Teaser images
High-end and moody with darker lighting and soft shadows.
Images that would be use to tease the product and would reveal very little about the product.

Hero/Mood images
High-end and moody with darker lighting and soft shadows.
Highlighting features and product surface and finish.
Long exposure imagery with less emphasis on the product.

Product Photography
Shot on white on off-white.
Shot alone and with multiple parts or human reaction.
Mounted and separated from the board.
Website wireframe and product copy
At the time of this project Boosted was without a copywriter so along with building the wireframes it was my job to take first pass on crafting the story around Boosted Beams. I started by listing out all the key features, specs and selling points of the product and rated them then grouped them to get an idea of how to package the story. From there it was sketching the best way to communicate each point. All of this work would give us the direction we need for capturing images and videos.

Wireframes
Up to this point Boosted's accessories had very limited storytelling on the site, I used the layout that I created for the Boosted Mini and Rev launch to build the basic structure. Then I crafted each section with it’s own copy and placeholder imagery to get an idea of what I needed to communicate.

Photo/Video
Photography is really testing out ideas in the exploration phase. This is where we could see our ideas come to life and see the product shine. All the photography was broken up into two days;
 - Lifestyle: 6 hour night shoot
 - Product: 8 hour studio shoot

Lifestyle
The lifestyle shoot was one cold night to early morning in SF. This was to ensure open roads and best lighting conditions. We picked models that where comfortable at riding and colors that matched the screen and product.

Product
Shooting on black took up most of the day in the studio. We knew the hero shot on black would be the most used shot and most important so we took adequate time on it. Product photos on white are easier to get right and took the remaining 2 hours.
Pairing photo with web
My favorite part of the whole process is when you get to merge all the ideas we had together and see how the product communicates as a whole. From here it was picking the right image and updating copy to best fit the image. Then it is off to exporting, uploading, and getting everything finalized for devs.
Conclusion
Not only is Boosted one of the best companies to work for it, it also has a product that I believe in. I have been riding my own Boosted Mini from early 2018 and just hit 1000 miles on the beast. It was an honor to work with such a talented team and to create so much with very limited resources. From start to finish this was just over 8 months of work and it was some of my most proud work. Credit to the team below that made it all happen.
